Haute Route Day 0 - Arriving at Chamonix
Arrival and staging day in Chamonix for our Haute Route hike.
This is staging day. Mark and Brian arrived in Chamonix last night, spending today recovering from jet lag. Michele and I drove over from Champéry late in the afternoon, checking into the same hotel. Then we went out together for dinner.
It's a wet, chilly day in Chamonix. It's better than the rough heat wave we had last week, but the weather for our first day of hiking tomorrow is looking wet. We shall see.
Gotta say. I do not really love Chamonix. It was always touristy, but these days it feels like any other high-end mountain tourist trap, missing that quintessential Frenchness that I recall from visits here decades ago.
