Haute Route Day 4 - cabane Louvie to cabane Prafleuri
Photos and details of day 4 of our Haute Route hike, traveling from the Louvie Hut to the Prafleuri Hut, crossing a high moonscape in the mountains.
Day 4... this is the middle day of the 3-day high alpine connection between Champex and Arollo - the longest continuously high segment of the Haute Route, during which we'll stay in two alpine huts. We were in the Louvie hut for night 3, and are heading to the Prafleuri hut for night 4.
This day's hike will climb a couple of passes cresting at 9800 feet and then descend to 8700 ft at the end.

Sunrise at Louvie Hut.

Les Dents du Midi from the side I don't usually see them.

Sleeping efficiency.

We left the hut around 8am, walking past the lake, looking back for a final shot or two.

Leaving the Mont Blanc behind.

Old farm building on the trail.

The sun crests the mountains immediately moving us from morning chill into a warm summer day.

After a tough climb, we crested into a new high micro climate - basically a moonscape.
We passed a herd of ibex on our way down.

We arrived at the Praflueuri hut in late afternoon. You can see the old hut on the right and the 'new' one on the left. This night, we had a room for 7 that we shared with 3 hikers from Pennsylvania.

But for some reason they didn't include showers in the new one. This is the shower... about a 5 minute walk... delivering only fresh, clean, COLD glacier water into that crate. Invigorating.
