Haute Route Day 10 - Täschalp to Zermatt
Photos and details of day 10 of our Haute Route hike, traveling the last link of the route from Taschalp into Zermatt, watching the Matterhorn emerge from the clouds as we walked.
This was our final day of hiking the Haute Route. One would normally cover the distance from St. Niklaus in two final days on a famous trail called the Europatrail. However, a significant portion of it is closed in 2025 for repairs, so, instead, we stayed in Zermatt and then went back and hiked the last half of that trail to wrap up the Route.
So, today, our plan was to start in Täschalp, another tiny little farming village high above the valley, to hike to the hut above the village, and then head from there into to the final leg into Zermatt.

The day started, as usual, in clouds.

The very nice Täschhütte, where we sat and enjoyed hot drinks before heading down.

Back in Täschalp, Michele joined us for the final leg into Zermatt.

Our first view of the Matterhorn from the trail. Over the course of the hike, the clouds danced around the mountain, slowly lifting away by the end of the day.

A little farming hamlet, a part of Zermatt in the valley, and the Matterhorn hiding above.

As we came into town, the full mountain came into view. What a spectacular way to wrap up the hike.
