Hiking in Pontresina

Michele and I are spending a month or so in Switzerland, to chill and to hike. This is the story and photos of our second chapter in the visit in Pontresina in the Engadine.

The second chapter in our visit to Switzerland was the town of Pontresina, in the Engadine region of Switzerland, in the east, bordering Italy.

We visited Pontresina in 2024 to hike, but it was early in the summer and rainy, so we only hiked a little (while having a fantastic time visiting the region by train). This year, we came back later in the season, hoping to complete some of those hikes.

Apparently it had been raining and chilly for most of July, but the weather flipped into sunny and gorgeous as we arrived. The week was spectacular.

These are the hikes we did:

We've come to appreciate Pontresina as a special place for outdoor adventures. It's high in elevation, so cool even in August. It's on an amazing train and bus system that can get you nearly anywhere. It's got access to several major ranges and glaciers, with tons of trails for hiking and mountain biking to explore.

I have a funny feeling we'll be going back.

After five days of hiking and eating fondue, we took the train to our next step: Champéry, on the other side of the country.
